چکیده

This paper develops a new routing algorithm for improving simulation capacity of physically-based hydrological models applied to sparsely-gauged river basins. The study area is the Lhasa River basin, a large plateau basin with an area of 26,225 km2 in southwest China. In the basin, observations from three hydrological stations are available, and the observed hourly rainfall and summer stream flow data (12 June to 30 September) for the period of 1998–2000 obtained from the three stations were used. TOPMODEL, with its original routing algorithm, which is a distance-related delay function, was applied to the Lhasa River basin. To improve the routing algorithm using a unit hydrograph function and a linear reservoir method, this study proposed a new algorithm; the results revealed that the new algorithm improved the simulation of the variation of hourly stream flow. In addition, to evaluate the influence of rainfall spatial variation on runoff generation, observed rainfall series from the three gauges were used to simulate runoff individually, and it was found that there are significant differences among the three simulated hourly stream flow series. Relationship between River Flow, Rainfall and Groundwater pumpage in Mikkes Basin (Morocco)

This paper investigates the relationship between river flow, rainfall and groundwater pumpage in the Mikkes stream during the period 1968-2009. The Mikkes basin is located in the north center of Morocco and consists of three different zones that represent diversified geologies. This basin includes a phreatic and confined aquifer in Saïs basin and a shallow aquifer in the Tabular Middle Atlas. A...

Comparison of Three GIS-Based Hydrological Models

Three geographic information system GIS -based distributed hydrological models were developed for flood simulation and forecasting in a subbasin of the Yellow River. A grid-and-topography-based distributed hydrological physical model, i.e., the GTOPMODEL model, is described that includes vegetation and root interception, evapotranspiration, and runoff generation via the saturation excess mechan...

Special issue: Barriers to Sustainable Management of Water Quantity and Quality Introduction of block-wise use of TOPMODEL and Muskingum-Cunge method for the hydro- environmental simulation of a large ungauged basin

For the sustainable management of water quantity and quality, a hydrological model that can simulate the hydro-environmental dynamics of river basins at arbitrary locations is valuable. There are several streamflow simulation models suitable for such a purpose. Yet the lack of data commonly poses a serious problem for their application. This is a serious problem encountered for the sustainable ...

Trends in precipitation and stream flow in the semi-arid region of Atrak River Basin, North Khorasan, Iran

In this paper trends of precipitation and stream flow are analyzed in the Atrak River basin in the North Khorasan province. Normal score linear regression, Mann-Kendall, and Seasonal Kendall trend tests were adopted. Three precipitation variables and two stream flow variables including total precipitation, maximum daily precipitation, and number of rainy days, mean discharge and peak discharge ...
